Is it possible to call a function, pass it a table variable as a parameter, manipulate data in it and return it back?

    Thank you,

See "User-Defined Functions That Return a table Data Type" in SQL BOL.

Passing a table variable to a UDF as a parameter is not possible , though i think this is a much needed feature
