One of the most useful functions added over the years. However, I use try_cast vs try_convert as snowflake supports try_cast so I have slightly more portable code.

I've probably made a bad habit... When I started learning, I was taught that being a programmer is like being a wizard. What do wizards do? They cast spells... and so I'm using try_cast and not try_convert. Is there much of a difference in performance? I've always thought of them as the same

Unfortunately your performance results may vary.
I've found it really depends on your data inputs and outputs and this was explored a bit in this article:
