Truncating the Transaction Log

    Thanks Lester.

    Just to clarify: I will have to use the "Shrink File to" (file size) option to reduce the file size - the truncate options are just reorganizing the data in the log (i.e. moving the free space to the end of the file).

    My two cents in the EM or Management studio is unreliable for shrinking databases. Read the BOL on DBCC Shrinkfile and use that.

    One of the smartest DBA's I ever worked with taught a valuable lessons. I quote "GUI's lie, don't be a GUI boy, learn Sql".
