Troubles entering data in Enterprise Manager

  • Hey;

    I'm having difficulties with data entry in Enterprise Manager (SQL Server 2000).  I was entering data manually into a table this morning, but now, out of the blue, it's not accepting my entries.  No error... no warning... but somewhere after about 4000 entries, it stopped recording the entries.

    This is only occuring for one table... luckily... which is not currently being used in a production environment.  Has anybody had this happen to them before, or have a word of wisdom to share?  I'm stumped.  I would restart the server... but I'll have to wait until after office hours.

         Thanx,

  • Checked my logs.

    Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 1 to 1. Run the RECONFIGURE statement to install..

    Error: 15457, Severity: 0, State: 1

    Using 'xplog70.dll' version '2000.80.194' to execute extended stored procedure 'xp_msver'.

    All these happened at 11:48, which is about when the table stopped recognizing my entered rows.

    I found a post at http://www.lazydba.com/sql/1__4146.html dealing with the same error message, and they imply that it's just some silly Enterprise Manager error... but I kinda need Enterprise Manager to enter this data.  I'd look for an alternate method... but I'm a sub here, the ITM/DBA is on vacation, and I don't know how everything is set up.

    Any tips would be appreciated...

  • Why aren't you using Query Analyzer? It's a much better way to run your scripts.

  • By the way.....this '2000.80.194' indicates your SQL Server is version 2000 and is NOT patched. 194 is the Release to Manufacturer build.  You should be patched to at least Service Pack 3a (SP3a), which would show up as 2000.80.766.

    Being properly patched COULD solve your problem.

  • I'm not scripting, I'm just doing some data entry in what, I think, is the simplest and quickest manner.

    I created a new table, a cloned the old, and everything's running jiggy now with the new table.  I still don't know what the problem was/is though with the original table.  I'll tell the ITM about the update issues, and he may follow through.

          Thanx all!  Hopefully you won't hear from me again today... 🙂

  • Why are you entering data manually?
