Hi,
I have implemented a cube on Analysis Services 2005 and created an Excel spreadsheet with multiple pivot tables and charts to view the data.
All is working fine on my development PC, however, when I attempt to use it from another PC it does not connect I get a Transport Layer Error.
I have installed the OLE DB 9 provider.
From reading around I understand that I can only use windows authentification. I have used the Surface Area configuration tool to enable network access but still get the same error.
I notice one post that suggests that you need to have the same Domain. I am working on a small network with no Domain. Does anybody know of a way round this ? am I missing anything else ?
Cheers

Do you have any roles on the cube? If so, is the user account (on the test machine) in one of those roles?

Thanks for the reply.
No. I have NOT setup any roles yet.
Do you think I need to for it to work ?

If the other user account (assuming it's not yours) isn't in a role then I don't know how it would gain access. You should be able to create a new role easily within the SQL Manager environment to test this. You can access it locally because you'll be an administrator of the system.

Steve,
Many thanks for the reply - I was beginning to think I was on my own with this one.
I tried adding a role but it did not help. The problem is that I can not log on to the server at all but I will probably need a role later so thanks anyway.
I found this post
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=207541&SiteID=1
Which (although a bit confusing) seems to suggest it is a known problem, when you do not have the same domain. The production enviroment will have a domain so I hope that will fix it until SP1 is released.
Any other ideas welcome.
Cheers
Carl

Update.
When connected to a domain name server it works. You need to create a role in the Analysis Server database with the user name in.
