Transaction log path - SQL 2008 Copy Database Wizard

  • I am trying to copy over 300 databases from the 2005 cluster to a new 2008 cluster. I would perfer to not have to detach the databases because of a need to keep the old cluster in production until the new system is fully tested.

I would like to use a SAN volume other that the default DB location to store the transaction logs.

The copy database wizard defaults both filenames to the default location for .mdf storage. I did change the default transaction path for the cluster but it didn't seem to have any impact on the wizard. Any ideas that will keep me from having to manually change the path over 400 times?

Any ideas would be much appreciated.....

  • Would it be easier to back up the databases, and then generate a restore script that puts the files where you want them?
