Nice question. At one point I would have found a means of logging full and incremental backups but not log backups useful, but that feature has never been provided.

This trace flag has existed for some time but was documented only in SQL 2008.
It works for SQL 2008, 2005 and 2000 SP4 (not tested) update.

This trace flag is still available in current versions, and will probably never go away. This is a part of my checklist for installations and is always enabled.
I would like to see this become an option that we can enable with sp_configure or similar. Just like successful logins is handled.
