    Some perspective: During the 11 years I was in a position to hire, I mostly thought depth was better than breadth.  And in 42 years I only experienced intra-company platform change one time.

    But there was one time I promised to acquire a new (non-database) programming language by the time I started a new job just to support an engineering group using Fortran.  And I hated Fortran.
