Temporary loss of connection to server

  • Hello all,

I am using a front end in MS Access 2003 (.mde file), and the MS SQL Server (Enterprise edition) as backend.

We can connect to the BE through a DSN-less ODBC without a problem, but during the day, we get several ODBC error messages. The most common one is:

    Connection failed:

    SQLState: ‘01000’

    SQL Server Error: 233

    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen(PreLoginHandshake()).

    Connection failed:

    SQLState: ‘08001’

    SQL Server Error: 11

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]General network error. Check your network documentation.

When we click Ok, the SQL Server Login screen show up, and all we have to do is hit Ok again, and everything goes back to normal for a few hours.

Today, I am running a long calculation process. I got this error a few times in the morning, and now I’m getting it every couple of minutes.

We had a profession here last week, and he couldn’t find anything wrong with the MS SQL Server itself.

Anyone would have a clue where the problem could be? Did someone had a similar problem?

    Cheers.

PS: The same problem happens with DSN ODBC as well.

  • What is your licensing mode for SQL Server?

Can you ping the SQL Server when you get the error?

Have you checked the Windows Event log on the server?

Is this happening at one client or at all the clients?
