    R.I.P Rapid Robert

Indians legend Feller dead at 92

Went to the '93 All-Star Game in Baltimore, and I actually got to meet Bob Feller at the All-Star Fan Fest. One of the nicest guys I ever had the pleasure of meeting! Rest in peace, Mr. Feller.

In the 90's my parents used to head down to Florida to see the Indians Spring Training and he would go to every Spring Training game signing autographs and watching the games.

I thought it was interesting that the article mentioned that he didn't have a good rapport with fans. My experience was the exact opposite of what the article said. When I met him, he asked me where I was from. When I told him, he said something like, "Oh, Albany NY -- I passed through there not long ago. Great town . . . " etc. It was a thrill for me talking to him, and he definitely left an impression on me.

  • I understand that Cooperstown will announce their Class of 2011 today!

Anyone have any predictions? I say Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven get in.

  • Personally, I hope it's only Blyleven.

I'm in shock. You mean I actually called this right???

Blyleven and Alomar only two elected to Baseball Hall of Fame

  • :discuss: Fodder for discussion (and I suspect I've brought this up before, but what the heck).

What eligible players should be in the Hall, but aren't?

Right off the bat: Tim Raines. IMHO, he should've gone first ballot. If it wasn't for Rickey Henderson, we'd be talking about Tim Raines as being the greatest leadoff hitter of all time.

I also think Edgar Martinez should be in, although I do understand people's concern about him being a full-time DH.

I'm on the fence about the 'roid users (McGwire, Palmiero, Clemens, etc.). That might come down to a case-by-case basis.

And as far as I'm concerned, Pete Rose can stay out. He insulted my intelligence with his arrogance and has shown no remorse. The only way he should be allowed in the Hall is if he buys a ticket.

  • Go Royals (hopefully they will not be last, again).

  • Bruce Jenkins, a BWA member and HOF voter, makes his case for eight guys (written just before this year's announcement, so Alomar and Blyleven are on his list).

Good article, thanks for the link.

    Here's a contrasting view[/url] from an admitted stat-head.

  • Trevor Hoffman announced his retirement yesterday.

    Is he a first-ballot HoF'er?

    Discuss.
