hi folks, i have a question.
I have a SQL server with more than 300 DB´s.
Thease databases are just for query's and no all time, the use the databases 2 times per month.
I have the server fully charged with other thinks, and i think how to unload it.
THE QUESTION IS: If I take OFFLINE a databases, the sql server will use less resources?
My idea is to make a script for take online/offline the database, so the person who use them (2 times per month) can take online.
From 300 DDBB, 70 need to be all time ONLINE, but the others 230 not.
So, If I take OFFLINE the 230 databases, SQL will use less resources? Or I need to DETACH the databases?
Regards.

In stead of taking them offline, you may want to have a look at AUTO_CLOSE;
Alter database yourdb
Set AUTO_CLOSE ON / OFF;
This way, SQLserver closes the db when it is not in use.
When a user performs a select to the db, then the files are opened again an brought into memory.
With offline-db you must perform an alter database yourdb set online before it is online again. With autoclose on, sqlserver handles keeping the db online or not.
