TABLE data type X Temporary tables

    Is the TABLE data type the solution for the old tempdb contention problem ?

    Somewhat. A table type allows you to manipulate a set of data in a stored proc. Tempdb is vastly improved. In v6.5, there was contention on sysobjects when adding a table to temptb with a select into. This is resolved in v7 and there should not be too much contention anymore.
