I've done some checking on this but everything I find seems to only apply to SQL 6.5/7.0. Does anyone know why the sysperfinfo table in a live SQL 2000 cluster would be empty or what to do about it?
Thanks!

The was a problem introduced in SQL2000 SP3, where the performance counters would not be available if perfmon was running at the time SQL2000 was started.
There are more details in KB article 812915

That doesn't seem to be it. Perfmon wasn't even up, let alone running when we started the SQL cluster. Any other ideas? So far this seems to be horribly obscure.

It doesn't have to be Perfmon itself that is running to cause the problem, it can be other forms of monitoring software that hook into the performance counters.
If it is this issue, then there is a Microsoft Hotfix for it.

Unfortunately, no monitoring software of any sort was running when we started this cluster or the SQL services. At some point we might be able to shut down and restart the SQL services, but it would have to be an early morning type thing.
