Hi,
I am local admin access to a server but do not have sysadmin access to SQL server. Can anyone please guide me getting the sysadmin access?

Speak to whoever is sysadmin on SQL server and ask them to grant it to you.

So apart from that, there are no other option like adding my account to a group which is having sysadmin access like that?

Well, yes - but only if such a group exists. By default, all members of the local Administrators group have full access to SQL Server (at least they did in older versions - not entirely sure about 2008). If whoever installed SQL Server didn't choose the default settings, though, you could be out of luck.

Works the same way in 2008 unless you actively disable it.
