Hello to All,
I am new to this discussion format, so forgive me if I ask a stupid question or don't understand the process.
I need help getting our production SQL server automatically synchronized with our backup SQL server so that when the production server fails the backup server instantly becomes available. What needs to be done to accomplish this?
Our application vendor doesn't support "clustered" servers, so we instead are looking at finding out how to synchronize servers and have the backup kick-in instantly in the event of a production server failure.
Will appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks.

As far as I know, Clustering is the only high availability solution which offers anything close to "instant" failover. Log Shipping and replication both require manual failover.

I'd look into XOSoft's wanSync or another product called Double-take. Both products will enable you to synchronize email, database or file servers for use in DR.
IMHO, wansync blows double-take away. Never had a problem with it.
