Strange ODBC Errors

  • Hi, when using impromptu to connect to a sql server database I get the message

[Microsoft][ODBC Sql Server Driver] Dialog Failed

    Error Number 9

DMS-E-General: A General Exception has occured during operation ' attach database'

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver] Dialog Failed

I have updated the MDAC on my pc to the lastest one, however when I test my odbc sources they connect without any problems.  I also get the ODBC message Invalid Windows Handle.  Can anyone give me a pointer or a lead or anything on what might be happening.

Thanks in advance for your help.  Mike.

  • These may seem obvious - but are you using system dsn (as opposed to user) & are you referencing the dsn name in your connection string (& not the db name..)

**ASCII stupid question, get a stupid ANSI !!!**

  • Hi, I get the same error in either the system dsn or the user dsn and when I connect I use the dsn name in the connection string.  Also whenever I try and run a report using impromptu that previously worked i get the following (don't know if it's going to help)

    [Microsoft][ODBC Sql Server Driver]Dialog Failed

    Error Number -239

DMS-E-General, a general exception has occured during operation prepare request (and the same thing for operation 'start transaction')

    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Dialog Failed

  • Michael - I read on one of the sites that you can enable impromptu log in [Impromptu - Audit Configuration] and if it is a database connection error you will get a "Detail" button listing this...

Alternately, you should check the code generating the report to make sure that no changes have been made (I know all this seems obvious, but....)

You maybe better off addressing this in an impromptu forum...here's one:
