WHICH STEPS OF IMPROVING POOR PERFORMANCE IN STORE PROCEDURE FOR SQL SERVER 2000?

Please don't post in all capitals. It's the online equivalent of shouting at someone.
First thing is to find out why the procedure is slow. Are there cursors, while loops or other forms of row-based processing? Run the procedure with STATISTICS TIME and STATISTICS IO on, and look for the parts that take long or have lots of IOs
Once you've found the parts that take long, you can look at fixing them. That may involve changing cursors to set-based code. If may involve rewriting queries to make them more efficient, it may involve looking at the execution plans and adding or changing indexes.
