  • This is a very good question, thank you Ron. Looks like today I was the first one to answer it. I had to take a guess because I don't have 2008 SSMS, so I just assumed that it probably has similar behavior with other IDEs such as 2005 SSMS, Visual Studio and BIDS. I think the feature is very handy.

  • Woot Woot.

    Nice question Ron. Nice implementation of the pic in lieu of script as well.

    I like the feature.

  • When I follow the instructions in the question, I get nothing!! The only popup that displays is when I press the right mouse button, and it contains nothing related to the url entered.

    Mal

  • Doesn't work for me. I have to hold down the ctrl-key + left-click.

  • Got nothing when pointing on the url. I wonder why...

  • I also have to press Ctrl + left mouse button in order to open the link.

    I don't see a pop-up either.

  • Give the link as /*http://www.google.com*/ instead of

  • It is not working for me too.

    Even with /* http://example.org */

    Maybe it is not the default behavior....

    If a Ctrl is used link can be followed in a new tab.

  • Is a new tab not opening at all? Or is the link not working? If new tab is opening check the link in the url space.

    When you move your mouse pointer over the link, a message appears saying "Press CTRL+Click to follow the link"

    No message pops up for me, but the CTRL + Click action does work and opens the link in a new tab. Ace 🙂

  • Good tip!!

    But you do have to hold down the CTRL key when you click on the link for the page to display.

  • A good question about which i had no idea so had to take a guess.

    With the question title of SSMS feature though i could only see one answer that represented a feature in SSMS so went for that one 😛

  • No popup, so no actions to select from - therefore the answer is 'nothing happens'. I am using SSMS 2008 SP1 to SQL Server 2008 SP1 and IE 8.

    If it worked as claimed then it would be useful!

  • Didn't work for me without a holding down the control button. I use SSMS 2008 every day and it's the first time I've come accross this feature.

    Incidentally, what would you expect to happen if you use both of these "embedded links"? (don't worry about creating a test proc, just use a new query):

    /*http://www.google.com*/

    /* http://www.google.com */

    A. They work the same

    B. The first link doesn't do anything

    C. The first link opens an incorrect URL

    Ok no points given out, but worth noting.
