SSIS Standalone installation package execution

  • Here's the scenario:

Server A: Contains an instance of SSIS only (no database engine or other SQL components)...this is an application server and SSIS integrates with that layer...

Server B: Full SQL Server 2005 Std Ed

I need to be able to execute packages on Server A and launch them from Server B via SQL Agent Job.

I cannot use sp_start_job as there is no job system or msdb db on Server A.

This has to be something others are dealing with but I'm having great difficulty finding a somewhat standard and supportable method for accomplishing this.

Any ideas and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Open up Integration Services in SSMS to Server A. Right click package in question. Click "RUN PACKAGE" and do NOT panic... @=)

Window will pop up. Pick all your config files and logging issues, then click the Command Line Tab. Cut-n-paste the entire line into Operating System job step on Server B's job. Make sure to fix the beginning of the line to include the "dtexec.exe" command or this will not work.

Test job. It should run perfectly as long as you have proper permissions.
