SSIS

  • I am trying to get started using SSIS. I have found all kinds of good stuff about it, but I can't seem to get access. I have SQL Server Express (and Management Studio Express) on my desktop machine. My employer has purchased and installed SQL Server 2005 Standard on the network, which I can access from my computer, but when I try to go thru the tutorial for SSIS it tells me to go to START; PROGRAMS; MS SQL Server 2005; SQL Server Business Intelligence....

This selection is not listed in the MS SQL Server 2005 group. I can't believe that I need to be physically at the server to use SSIS and SSAS! I have looked thru the README file that came with the Standard version and it does not mention this at all.

How do I get linked up with these services from my client machine which is on the same intranet?

  • SSIS doesn't come with express, you'll need developer, standard or enterprise.

Refer to the section, "Integration and Interoperability":

  • Thanks for the reply. We have just installed Standard on a separate server on our network, and I am trying to use it from the client computer in my office. I am looking thru some links now that talk about running SSIS from a remote client using "remote packages". Looks like it is "doable", but not easily. It's hard to imagine that the SQL Standard version doesn't have some simple way to link up with the server services from a remote client.!
