I am having SQL Server 7.0 Installed on a Windows Nt 4.0 server. Since a few days the SQL Server does not connect. The Master database contains all the data and the biggest problem is no backup has been taken has this happened all of a sudden. I tried copying the data directory to another PC having windows nt 4.0 and sql server 7.0 but it does not work. Kindly tell me what is the solution to this problem and how to retrieve the master database and get all my data back.

Can you access the SQL Server from the console (at the server itself) using Enterprise Manager or Query Analyzer?

Does the MSSQLSERVER service start and stay running? What are the contents of the ERRORLOG file indicating? Any errors in the Application or System event log for the system?

What is the procedure for starting MSSQL Server in Single User Mode. When I give the command \mssql7\binn\sqlservr.exe -c -m from the Command prompt the server starts coming up but after a few mins it halts. In short the sql server does not start in single user mode on my PC.
