Hi all - can someone please tell me what a typical SSAS deployment looks like?
What I mean is where should the data warehouse sit? Should it be on the same instance as your applications?
What exactly is a SSAS database? Is it created when you deploy a cube?
What are the best practices for the hardware in terms of disks and servers? Should the Warehouse and application databases be on seperate disks?

You don't say what version of SQL Server you are using, but your question is very broad. I would suggest googling some of the items. If you prefer books, assuming you are using SQL Server 2005, I would recommend The Microsoft Data Warehouse Toolkit: With SQL Server 2005 and the Microsoft Business Intelligence Toolset. Only speaking for me, we are here to help with specific items, but for general learning you need to take some upon yourself.

What is the meaning of applications?
As suggested in the earlier post you may understand or manage to get a gist of all your doubts by reading the relevant content
