SQLMS 32bit to admin SQL2K8R2 x64?

  • Hello,

Can anyone tell me if I could use SQL 2008 Management Studio (32 bit) to administor a SQL 2008 R2 x64? What would not work due to the above?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

  • None, it's just a client tool.

I connect with my 32-bit SSMS (still on Windows XP) to 64-bit servers all the time without issues.

  • Well, there isn't a 64-bit version of SSMS... It's only the server components that are 64 bit (and drivers), not the client tools.

  • Thank you Koen Verbeeck!! I will proceed with the install.

  • Should work with no problems. That was the setup I used at a previous employer, desktop system was 32-bit and servers were 64-bit.

  • Thank you GilaMonster and Lynn Pettis for your advice.

Your advice and help is highly appreciated.
