sqlexpress default instance doesn't get installed

  OS = WINDOWS XP sp3

  SQL EXPRESS VERSION 2008

  version 10

  I installed sqlexpress couldn't connect via osql.

  I uninstalled

  I installed sql development edition, it worked great. Connected via osql. Left the tools on there for troubleshooting.

  uninstalled edition (except for management tools)

  I installed sqlExpress again (same config) mixed mode with a password and local user as admin. (same config on all installs).

  osql DOES NOT WORK. I tried connecting using (local) with management tools and get the message :

  a network related or instance specific error has occured. the server was not found etc.... long message goes on and on and on :

  Can anyone recommend how I can go about fixing this issue?
