One of my users has W98 and SQL7 Desktop intalled. He tried to run Setup.bat from SP3, but got the following
"PRODUCT_NAME - entry not found in the string table" followed by more missing keys and strings. Finally the setup program aborts.
What could be causing this ?

There should be two files left behind by the install I cannot rememeber their names but they are something like sql(something).log and cnfg but they should have been created on the day this was run. Finds thes and post their content as they have a lot of detail which can help solve this issue.

Ok this file looks fine. However does he have OLAP server items installed for SQL. If so then take a look here at MS KB Article

My user machine reports that it is running us_english version of SQL as is my machine (which performed the sp installation Ok), so any further ideas, or will I have to re-install SQL on these machines ?

Ok, I am baffled primarily since the sqlsp.log file does not containt a failed line. My last thought is find the .out files that occurr when the upgrade is done and see if any have messages about failure, without any other information on this message or any details on what sql was oing when it failed I would have to then say reinstall (which may require wipping to get a clean install).

Looks like I will have to do a clean install, which is a bit of bore, however, no data has been lost !!
