SQL2005 and Ideara SQL Doctor

  • Hello all,

does anyone have an opinion about the recommendations that come from running Ideara SQL Dr. against the SQL server?

    Thanks

PS Just a crazy thought. Why is SQL called a server when it needs an OS to run hence shouldn't it just be called SQL? (After all it's just a program running on a server.)

  • It's called "server" because that's what it does.

    There's a good definition at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server_(computing)

    It's not limited to OS-ware.

As for the first question, sorry, no clue. Never used it. What's it suggesting you do?

  • Take EVERYTHING that the SQL doctor suggests with several grains of salt.

You can take a fresh install of SQL Server with recent databases and run the Doctor and it will come back saying your server is in a SEVERE state 🙂

Obvious things it picks up are good (Useage of COALESCE versus ISNULL, etc) but IMHO...research before making any serious reccomendation changes.
