SQL2000 affected by WIN2k Upgrade?

  • Is there an article which describes steps and hints or problems with SQL2000 might fall inro when the Operating System is being upgraded from WIN2k Server to Win2k Advanced Server...

Can some one provide a list of 'what-not to do's?

    Thanks in advance

  • Haven't seen one. I'd follow the logical steps. Backup dbs (be sure these are on antother server or tape). Detach dbs, upgrade, reattach.

Might need to reapply SPs, but I doubt it.

  • Most of the files will be more current than any that may be layed down by the OS and should not be overwritten without at least asking. Settings in the registry will be retained but you should still always be prepared for the worst. Make sure you do have a full backup of all databases to a location off the machine (network share elsewhere, tape, etc), have the SQL install disk handy, a copy of the latest SP/patches you applied and any other support files you may have upgraded, so if you do run into issues you do not have to run around to try and find it.

  • My windows2k software is on a separate disk (C:). My SQLServer is on E:. From what you say it seems that the upgrade ofwin2k does not require re-installation of SQLserver server software?
