SQL Server Waits - 2,000 ms/sec

  • Hi all,

I am hoping someone might be able to clarify something for me. I am the closest thing our organization has to a dba, however I don't pretend to be something I'm not - hence 'closest thing'.

I have been monitoring our Business Intelligence server (SQL 2008 SP2) and am seeing what I believe are very high wait times. I would be expecting to see something in the hundreds of ms/sec rather than thousands. That said, the types of waits seem to be fairly well distributed between the categories.

Is someone able to tell me if this is something that I should be concerned about? Are there any suggestion on how I might be able to remedy this?

    Your guidance would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Andy

  • I have my own monitoring for this so don't have the mdw turned on to compare. I think these are cumulative waits and to be blunt the info is pretty useless - hence your question. The answer, always, is do you have a problem? If so then you need to investigate, the granularity of the data you show isn't really sufficient and the whole subject of waits is afairly lengthy one to fully explain and it is affected by all sorts of things too.

There will always be wait data - which concerns you - maybe we could direct you to the right area
