SQL Server Performance metrics/ graphs

  • Whats the best to go about capturing data related to CPU/ memory/ IO usage and create graphs out of it on daily/weekly and monthly basis?

    thanks

  • We use quest performance analysis. It works great for that type of thing as well as identifying performance problems. I think it can be done with perfmon, but automating it is messy

  • The free way of doing it is to use Performance Monitor and export the data to Excel. It's pretty simple to do. If you need more details (shameless plug), I wrote an e-Book on it a few years ago. A link to the Amazon.com listing is on the front page of my web site.

  • I'm currently evaluating Quest's new product Capacity Manager. In addition to tracking these statistics, it forecasts your future performance needs so that you know well in advance when you will approach your performance limits so that you can do something before problems arise.
