Hi there,
I've just set up a new server for a fresh installation of MS Dynamics NAV. I used Windows Server 2008 Standard with SQL Server 2008 Standard. Both x64 installs.
I have a NAV Classic Client installed on the server and can quite happily connect to the demo database that has been set up. However, the Client installed on any PC's in the domain cannot see the SQL server on the domain.
So from within NAV, for those that are familiar, if I try to open a database, I get a pull down list of available SQL servers. This is blank. If I try to enter the name of the server and database directly, I get an error stating that the server cannot be found.
How does an SQL server broadcast itself to a network? Do I need to perform some additional configuration? Do I need to manually configure my switch for any ports that aren't open by default?
Thanks.

RESOLVED: it was the non-admin domain user name used to start the SQL Server service problem. I found the SPN error in the log and then found the answers here on the forum.

Thanks for the update, and glad you got your SPN error resolved. Those can be tricky.
