SQL Server just don''t want to listen TCP.

  • Hi! Mi problem is that my SQL Server does not listen on TCP/IP.

I've already used the server network administration tool and set all the options, restart the server, and after checking the log file, I see that the server indeed listens on all the options that I added EXCEPT TCP (which as I said before, was added also), so I don't know what is going on. I even tried to put only the TCP and the log file doesn't report to be listening on it. I have tried algos, shuting down my antivirus and firewall, but no different result. Using netstat, the TCP port (1433) is not listed (which is a bit obvious, since the log doesn't report to be listening on it, of course I've tried to do a telnet also)

I do connect with ODBC and iSQL, but I suppouse (and even I can bet) that those two make the connection with named pipes. The log don't report an error (like a bind error) so I suppouse the SQL is just ignoring my request to use TCP.

My version of MDAC and OS is: MDAC 2.8 SP1 in Windows XP Professional SP2

    Any help will be great!!!

  • I know you said you tried disabling the firewall, but did you take a look at the following?

How to configure Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) for use with SQL Server

Also, what error is given in the OS' application event log with respect to trying to listen on TCP/IP?
