SQL Server installation fails

  • Hi,

    I am trying to install a named instance SQL Server 2008 STD edition 64 bit on windows server 2008 sp1 64 bit. Installation fails with the following error:

    Verbose log does not provide any information except that main engine thread returns 0 , and SQL server instalation fails.

    I am added in the admin group and had done three named instanace installation on the same box.

    I did try using another media but no luck.

    Other 3 instances are with SQL Server 2008 SP1 + Cummulative update package 2, Version is 2714.

  • Hi ,

    You may need to check if the Microsoft SQL Server folder in Registry has been granted full permissions to the user with which the installation is being carried out. Check folders unders both HkeyLocalMachine & also Hkey Local System
