SQL SERVER Installation

  • hi there,

I have a SQL SERVER 2016 installed on windows 10. I am trying to uninstall it or installing SQL SERVER 2017, In either ways it is giving me an error saying computer need to be restarted. Once I restart, it comes again in the next try. Can anyone help please.

    Thanks,

  • This was a bug with installs of 2000 - 2008 not seen it in 2012 or above, but the fix back then was to perform the below

    Open Regedit

    Find the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager"

Rename the "PendingFileRenameOperations" value to "PendingFileRenameOperations2" OR Delete the "PendingFileRenameOperations" value, depending on how safe you feel modifying the registry

Restart your machine and then try again
