Does anyone know if there is a way to tell if a SQL Server install or a SQL Server SP install is going to require a reboot? When installing SP2 for SQL 2k, I sometimes get a reboot request and other times do not. For planning purposes on production installs it would be great to know for sure exactly how many reboots a SQL Server or SQL Server SP install was going to need. Currently, we just go off of whatever happened in the test environment. Any ideas?

I always reboot. I want to be sure that if the server runs for 6 months and we do a reboot for something else that nothing is broken that will leave me scratching my head for a few hours.

Good Point Andy. I agree that it is a good practice to make sure that your install has not broken anything. However, Just out of curiosity do you know why SQL Server sometimes requires a reboot and other times does not.
