SQL Server Hosting

  • I have a project that requires a 5 to 10 GB SQL Server DB in addition to a minimal amount (100MB) of conventional (IIS) disk space.  I want to place the application on a hosted server.  My bandwidth demands will be moderate relative to the disk space requirements.

Does anyone have a recommendation of a host that can accommodate that kind of disk space demand for a reasonable price.  I'd prefer not to buy my own server/software and colocate; however, I can't find any shared plans that allow for that kind of disk usage.  Most plans offer up to maybe 500MB (SQL Server) and then charge $20/mo for every 50MB after that.

M6.Net seems to have the plans (http://www.m6.net/prices.aspx) ($30/month gets you 25GB), but I've heard their service quality is poor.

I'd really like to get 20GB of high quality SQL Server Space, with fairly liberal administrative rights for around $50-$60/month.

Thanks in advance for any help or feedback.

  • I use these guys for my Homeowners association: http://www.websecurestores.com/HostingServers/HostingPlans/tabid/65/Default.aspx

I run a basic with the dot net nuke framework, but they've been good to me. Still not cheap. The problem I think you will run into is that adding space on the shared SQL server is expensive, but also they don't want your huge data queries causing issues with other users. If you have a 100MB database, it's hard to write a cross join that will kill other users, unless that's just 2 tables . With 5GB, it's a bigger issue.

I'd contact a few of them and talk about your needs. They might customize a plan for you if you explain what you need.

  • Thanks for the response.

Has anyone used Empire Data technologies (http://www.edthosting.com/)?

They seem to have some excellent plan options, so I'm seriously considering going with them.
