Sql server dont seem to open the ports

  • Hello

I have just installed sqlexpress 2008, i have started the service in sql configuration manager and i can connect to it with the managment gui. But i cant seem to use it. netstat dosnt shows any open port at all that is related to sql.

  • Hi,

Please explain how you are trying to connect. If from a remote server you will need to make sure tcp/ip or named pipes are turned on in the sql configuration manager.

  • I've had the service NOT start after 1-2 installs. Just go in services and start it.

If connecting remotely you need to start the sql browser service as well.

Need to allow remote connections too and maybe tcpip like it's been mentionned.

Of course this all assumes that you had no install error and that you are pointing to the correct servername (+instance name)
