Sql Server 2016 License Verification

  • Hi,

Thanks for taking time to read my query.

We hired a IT support company to manage our IT needs. Recently they charged us for Sql Server Enterprise License but IT company is not providing us any key or something that we can cross-verify with Microsoft to confirm the license was purchased on behalf of our company.

So my question is does Microsoft provides any key on purchase of sql server license? Or how do we ensure that the sql server we are using was purchased on our company behalf.

    Thanks!

  • If you have SSMS and can connect to the instance, execute @@VERSION. That will tell you definitively whether or not the instance is Enterprise.

  • Licensing is all paperwork and purchase orders, you don't get keys any more.  As long as your paperwork is sound, you'll be OK.

If your paying for the service, you need to check your contract with them on the T&C's relating to licensing etc.
