SQL Server 2008 Standard to Developer

  • Hi,

I currently have installed on my computer SQL Server 2005 Standard and SQL Server 2008 Standard. I was planning to upgrade my SQL Server to the Developer edition, and was wondering how this works - Am I meant to upgrade my current copy, or do I install it so that there are two copies, or do I uninstall the standard edition before I install the new edition?

What about the default instance, do I need to create a new instance, or can my old instance also be upgraded so that it is 2008 compatible?

Also, I hear that reporting services has some kind of dependencies between the 2005 and 2008 instance - will this break if I install the 2008 developer edition, if I was to uninstall the standard one?

    Any help appreciated!

  • Looks for the SKUUPGRADE option for the command line setup of SQL Server. You will be able to change the edition. You will need to reinstall all patchs though. Be prepared, it is a long and tedious process.
