SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services - Unable to activate Report Data

  • While working in Designer on a Report that was working fine, I decided to look at the query once again. So I clicked on VIEW then on REPORT DATA and nothing happened. I tried the same thing on other Reports and Report Data would not activate. I closed everything and rebooted and tried again. Still nothing happened.

I am sure this is something simple but I just get Report Data to respond even though when I go into View the Report Data is available for selection.

    Thanks in advance,

    Bill

  • When you're in BIDs, select the Report Data tab next to the Toolbox tab and right click over the relevant dataset. You'll get various options, one of which is Query ... Select that and you've got the code.

  • Thank you for your attempt Cath, however, I guess my problem was not clear enough.

When the Solution Explorer, Toolbox, and Properties Windows are closed, you are able to activate them by going to the Tool bar at the top of your screen. However, if your REPORT DATA is closed, you have to select the VIEW dropdown and select REPORT DATA, providing it is highlighted for selection on the dropdown. In my case it is highlighted for selection but when I click on it REPORT DATA it does not activate.

I closed my software and restarted it and selected several reports that I have created myself and always got the same results. I restarted my computer and restarted everything several times with the same results, no REPORT DATA.

  • Sorry for the misunderstanding Bill. It's a long shot, but could the Report Data window position be in Dockable and Auto Hide? If so I guess it might have got docked somewhere unlikely and hidden itself.

  • Cath,

Not a docking problem and I am afraid that we may never know because the next morning when I went into Visual Studio and accessed a Report the Report Data was showing in the middle of the screen. Mind you this was after I had performed a complete reboot twice. Thanks again for your willingness to try to help.

    Bill
