SQL Server 2008 R2 compatibility with Active Directory 2012

  • We are running Server 2008R2 and Server 2012 with SQL 2008 R2 and SQL 2012 respectively.

I've been asked to verify compatibility with Active Directory 2012.

I'm going to assume there are no issues with SQL 2012 on Server 2012 however i'm not sure about Server 2008 R2/SQL 2008 R2.

We don't do any LDAP queries out of SQL or SSIS this is just to confirm that our AD accounts will continue to function as normal with AD2012.

The only thing i've found is in regards to SQL 2008 R2 running on Win Server 2012 and that requires SP1.

I feel the real question is in regards to the windows server as i assume SQL Server doesn't communicate directly with the domain controllers but uses a windows service of some kind to handle all that.

    Thoughts, suggestions, answers? - thanks

  • If anyone out there has upgraded AD to 2012 and has 2008 sql servers did it work? what sort of investigation or testing did you do?

    anything would be helpful.

  • Hello,
I found this post, and I need to find an answer on the same question.
Do you know in the meantime if it is compatible?
