SQL Server 2008 MCTS and MCITP At The Same Time?

  • I've been a MS Web Dev for 10 years now and know c# and .net very well, and a lot of TSQL. But, i would like to improve a ton on my SQL 2008 knowledge (dev and dba).

Is it possible to study for the MCITP and get a comprehensive knowledge base where one could also pass the MCTS tests? Or, (which I doubt is the case) are there topics specific to the MCTS that aren't covered in the MCITP books/practice tests/kits/ etc?

If you are one who did the dev and or dba track (MCTS and MCITP) what approach did you take?

Exam 70-432: TS: Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Installation and Maintenance

Exam 70-433: TS: Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Database Development

Exam 70-450: PRO: Designing, Optimizing and Maintaining a Database Server Infrastructure using Microsoft SQL Server 2008

Exam 70-451: PRO: Designing Database Solutions and Data Access Using Microsoft SQL Server 2008

  • The MCTS is a pre-requisite for the MCITP certification. You'll have to write and pass the TS exam first, then the PRO to get the certifications.

  • Thanks, I understand that. But can one study for the MCITP at the same time as the MCTS, or should the studying be structured sequentially?

  • You can study any way you like. No one's going to restrict you there. The material is not the same in the two exams (no big surprise), so it might be more difficult to study for both then write both than to study for one, write one then study for the second and write the second. If you feel up to studying for them together and writing them together, go for it.

  • I agree with Gail. Work on one, then the other. No reason to do them together.

  • Will do, thanks both of you. 🙂
