SQL Server 2008 Install Fail: Unable to initialize SSL encryption but its turned off. Any Ideas??

  • Hi there

I'd welcome any opinions or links on this problem. Thanks a lot...

    SUMMARY:

I'm attempting an test install of SQL 2k8 on a clean vmware box

    (Windows 2003 SPK 2).

Install is failing because SQL Server service cannot start. Excerpt

    form ERRORLOG is below

    NOTES:

    VIA protocol is disabled.

All services (except browser) are running as domain account with local

    admin membership.

Force Encryption is set to No for Protocols.

The certificate entry in the supersocketlib registry key is empty

    (clean build, no upgrade)

    QUESTIONS:

    1. Why would it fail on certificate initialisation if Force Encryption

    is turned off.

    2. What can I do about it?
