My enterprise application runs smoothely on 32 bit operating systems with Sql Server 2005. I got a new laptop and after installing everything the simplest, one-record query takes like 15 seconds. Ive got SQL Server 2005 Developer edition x64 on 64-bit Vista and the service pack 2 por sql server 2005 is installed. Any ideas on how to fix this? Does anyone know if I can SQL Server 2005 x86 without trouble although the OS is 64 bits?
Details of my laptop:
Model: Toshiba Satellite m305d.
Processor: AMD TURION X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-80 2.10 GHz
RAM: 4GB
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1, 64 bits

You can install 32-bit applications on x64 OS, they would just run in compatible mode
I don't see why in your case, SQL x64 should run better on x64 OS
Check the execution plan?
