SQL Server 2005 SP1 - supported o/s versions

  • Does anyone know for certain whether or not SQL Server 2005 SP1 Enterprise Edition is supported on a Windows Server 2008 cluster? I have spent several hours trying to install SP1 to no avail and one of the log files in the Setup Bootstrap folder contains the line 'installed OS does not support this product version'.

So from that one would think it was clear, but I can't find any documentation to back that up. Of course it doesn't help that 2005 SP1 was released before Windows Server 2008 was even available.

The reason for wanting to install SP1 is, as part of a migration of an existing clustered instance we want to do a brief regression test at SP1 level (which is the level of the current clustered instance) before moving to SP3.

    Thanks

  • Found the answer to my own question while answering someone else's! 😛

The link below confirms that for Windows Server 2008, SQL 2005 is supported at SP2 and above.
