Hi All,
I am trying to configure a database mail on SS2005 using gmail account.
I have specified
account name
email address
server name, port number 465, 589
authentication details
but i keep getting the following error message
"The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 1 (2010-02-23T20:30:15). Exception Message: Could not connect to mail server. (A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 216.239.59.109:25)".
I ve been through all the steps over and over but i cant seem to be able to get it to work.
Any suggestions please???????

Basic troubleshooting..
Can you reach the server ip address and port from that machine?
If not then there are a multitude of possible causes:
1. Local Windows firewall dropping traffic.
2. Your companies firewall will not pass this traffic (VERY common).
3. Your company requires an internal proxy.
4. It can't resolve the name to address (DNS issue)
Keep in mind that this doesn't mean you can open GMail on your web browser on this machine but that an SMTP client can talk to the underlying server.
Just my first thoughts.

Check your anti-virus settings.
