SQL Server 2005 64-bit performance counters are missing

  • I have Windows 2003 Server 64-bit with SQL Server 2005 64-bit. When I run perfmon, I don't see the counters for SQL Server. I discovered something on google about having to do "mmc /32 perfmon.msc" and then I was able to see the counters in real-time. But this isn't what I want because I want to monitor the performance over several hours.

If I try to go into "Counter logs" (using 32-bit perfmon) and add them all and then click the "Start" button, it gives me this error.

The sql-32-bit log or alert has not started. Refresh the log or alert list to view current status, or see the application event log for any errors. Some logs and alerts might require a few minutes to start, especially if they include many counters or they contain counters to be collected from a remote system that is no longer on the network. For further information see the troubleshooting section in the online help.

    Any ideas?

This issue does ring a bell ... far, far away

Search the MS KB ... maybe you'll find a known problem over there.
