SQL Server 2005 32 bit on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

  • Tried to make a clean installation. Management studio not showing on Sql server 2005 start menu only configuration tools. Tried SqlRun_Tools from command prompt getting an error that the components already installed. Please help with detailed insatllation process.

  • It sounds like you have a failed install and an uninstall and then reinstall will be necessary. There is a rather long process to do the uninstall. That is the route I would go at this point.

  • Thanks for a prompt response. The first installation failed. I tried again and it succeeded. I even went to advanced options to make sure that the client tools are include. The default instance is installed and the SQL Server service is started. I tried the upgrade option which detects that the tools are already installed. The SqlWb.exe is not there even the path to IDE in the x86 folder is missing.

Any help will be appreciated. I do not have 64 bit version, I must get the 32 bit working. This is the developer version.

That's part of the issue - in one place it is detected as a successful install but in others it is not registered as being installed. Thus the product is not actually successfully installed and should be uninstalled and then reinstalled.

  • Thanks again

I uninstalled SQL Server and reinstalled it but this time I started with Client components then server. Immidiately after installing client components, the management studio was sitting there waiting for me to click it. I did. boom it opened. I quickly ran a select query on the remote server, I was so exited to see the results from the query then I had a cuppa tea.

    Thank you again!!!:-P

  • You are welcome.
