We have had MSDE 2000 running for some time on our Windows 2000, SP2 server (single server network). It was installed with a vendor's application. Now we want to install another vendor's application which requires SQL Server 2000, not just MSDE.
The first vendor says you can NOT install SQL Server 2000 on the same machine as MSDE 2000. The second vendor says you can but has not offered any instructions as to how nor supplied any assurances it will work.
We only have a live system, no test system, so we need to have a definitive answer as to whether or not these two SQL products can be installed on the same server and not be problematic. Does anyone know the answer to this? Are there any Microsoft white papers or knowledge base articles that would authoritatively answer this and tell how to do such an install?
Thanks.
Clive
Thanks.

Nothing I know of, but I suspect you can do this, but the SQL (rgular) install will be an instance.

I've got it running right now, MSDE as the main instance, two named instances of SQL. No problems.
