The max database size listed on microsofts website says that SQL Server 2000 is 1,048,516 terabytes. Thats over a million terabytes. http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluation/overview/default.asp
But I often see info, including from Microsoft, that the max database size is 1 terabyte on SQL Server 2000 Standard and 2 terabytes on SQL Server Enterprise. Thats a sheer drop from the info page stating that the max database size is over a million terabytes. Whats the real answer?

I don't recall anything that shows different database limitations between SQL Standard and Enterprise.

However, I'd say with the 2 GB memory limitation in SQL Standard, you're likely to run into performance problems with a terabyte database.

According to books on line it is 1,048,516 TB.

It does say that the maximum size of any one file in the database can be 32TB and that the maximum number of files in a database is 32767.

32767 x 32TB = 1,048516TB

Personally I would take such a claim in the same vein as the Windows NT minimum memory requirement of 24MB!

I know of people running more than 2TB. Guarentee that 2TB is not a limit. Not sure about 1TB on Std, never gotten a db on Std to that size, but the documentation from MS doesn't indicate this. IF you see it, I'd guess it's FUD from an MS hater.
