MSSQL 7 - SQL Profiler
I'm running a trace agaianst failed logins and am capturing the host name ... where does this tool get this info from ie: registry?

It's passed by the client and as a result is not guaranteed to be reliable. It's fairly easy to spoof:

Hi Brian, thanks for the whitepaper. I did a quick test and was unable to get/loacte the screen shot (Figure 12: Setting the Information in MS Access). Could you further elaborate or provide the steps to get to this dialog box displayed in your whitepaper? ie: i didn't see an "Options" button on the MS-Access linked table properties. is it ODBC; MSSQL?
We have an exact situation happening and I would like to determine how an in-correct workstation tag # is being passed by the MS-Access 97 app (uses linked tables to mssql db).

The Access version used in that article was Access 2000. When setting up a new connection via the DSN is when you get that dialog box (provided the connection doesn't already exist for that database. Connecting via a file DSN is also a way to do this as the hostname can be set manually by editing the DSN file.
